Our Veterinarians

All our veterinarians are skilled general practitioners, which means they have a wide range of experience in many areas of medicine and surgery.  They can serve as your pet's pediatrician, family practitioner, dentist, radiologist, general surgeon and gerontologist!  Of course, should your pet require services beyond what we offer, we can refer you to one of the many area board-certified specialists in every field imaginable.  All this means that you and your pet can have access to the best possible care that veterinary medicine has to offer.

The Country Veterinary Hospital is owned by Drs. Tom Armitage and Al Holden.  Both are graduates of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine and also attended Ohio State for their undergraduate education.  Dr. Armitage moved to the area upon graduation  in 1980 and started his career as an associate in the practice. Dr. Holden joined the team in 1982.  They  purchased the hospital in 1992. Dr. Armitage currently serves as the Small Animal Practice representative on the board of directors for the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. Doug Graham grew up locally, attending Gaithersburg High School.  He was President of the Class of 1998 at the Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine after receiving a bachelor?s degree in Wildlife Management at Virginia Tech.  He worked in private practice for eight years while doing emergency work part-time, prior to joining the veterinary staff at Country Veterinary Hospital in May, 2006.  He is very active in the profession; he lectures regularly at University of Maryland and for local organizations, and has an animal show presentation for children.  He is currently president of the Virginia Maryland Veterinary Alumni Society alumni board.  He has been a member of the Frederick Junior Chamber of Commerce (the JayCees) since 1999, and is also a member of the Maryland and the local Western Maryland veterinary associations.

Jan Rubenstein, DVM is married to Dr. Armitage and also received her veterinary degree from Ohio State in 1980.  A Maryland native, she attended North Carolina State University for her undergraduate education.  She currently spends most of her time performing "behind the scenes" management duties for the practice, but also fills in for the other veterinarians as needed.
